Thanks for your interest in the analyst report on hyperconvergence. In it, Storage Switzerland analyst George Crump looks at three concerns with hyperconverged hardware appliances:
- The “green field” problem. Appliances are best deployed for new projects since they can’t use existing hardware.
- They can’t scale up. Appliances come in fixed configurations, meaning you can’t add storage, memory or compute capacity to existing nodes.
- Vendor lock-in. Appliances take a black box approach that lock you in to the server hardware, storage and hypervisor.
