451 RESEARCH REPORT: COMMISSIONED BY MAXTA AND INTEL

SOFTWARE-DEFINED STORAGE AND HYPER-CONVERGED INFRASTRUCTURE IN THE MIDMARKET

Software-defined storage and hyper-converged infrastructure are coming of age at a critical time in the evolution of data storage management. With virtualization of most servers a fore-gone conclusion, customers are now looking for ways to virtualize more of their infrastructure, particularly storage.

Midmarket companies recognize the expense and challenges they face as they continue to add storage hardware to accommodate rapid data growth. Hence, they are better positioned to adopt these new ways of managing storage.

Maxta and Intel commissioned 451 Research to poll midmarket U.S. businesses, defined as those companies with $100 million to $1 billion in annual revenue. Respondents were IT, data center, storage, networking and operations managers, as well as executive managers with responsibility for or influence on IT infrastructure purchasing decisions. The majority of these businesses were managing 25 TB or more of data as their storage infrastructure.
